Meet Your Speech-Language Pathologist
Welcome! I'm the founder of Connected Voices LLC, a private speech-language therapy practice located in Fleming Island, Florida.
I am a Florida-licensed speech-language pathologist and hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). I earned my master's degree from Florida State University and am currently in my sixth-year practicing as a speech-language pathologist.
My Clinical Experience
Throughout my clinical career with Clay County School District, I have worked with students with a diverse range of speech, language, and communication needs. My experience includes working with individuals with receptive and expressive language disorders, articulation and speech sound disorders, fluency disorders, cognitive-communication impairments, and difficulties with reading comprehension and vocabulary development.
I also have experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), including programming AAC devices, developing individualized interventions, and supporting individuals in using AAC to communicate more effectively in their everyday environments.
During my graduate studies at Florida State University, I completed my clinical practicum at Brooks Rehabilitation, where I gained experience working with individuals with neurological conditions, including Parkinson's disease, dementia, and aphasia. My clinical experience included addressing speech and voice difficulties associated with Parkinson's disease, as well as cognitive-communication impairments, memory difficulties, language disorders, functional communication, and swallowing disorders (dysphagia).
While at Brooks, I also researched and presented Lax Vox, a semi-occluded vocal tract (SOVT) voice therapy technique designed to reduce excessive vocal fold tension and promote more efficient phonation. I introduced the technique to the clinical team, demonstrated its application, and was pleased to see it incorporated into their practice.
I subsequently completed my Clinical Fellowship with Clay County School District, where I have continued my career as a speech-language pathologist.
My Approach to Therapy
I have a particular passion for working with individuals experiencing fluency and stuttering disorders, cognitive-communication difficulties, social communication challenges, and voice disorders, as well as receptive and expressive language impairments and articulation disorders.
I believe effective speech-language therapy should be individualized, engaging, and meaningful. My approach focuses on helping clients develop practical communication skills that extend beyond the therapy room and make a difference in their everyday lives.
I recognize that communication is about much more than speaking clearly or using the right words. It's about expressing thoughts and feelings, building relationships, advocating for oneself, and participating confidently in everyday situations.
Additional Professional Background
Before becoming a speech-language pathologist, I spent 11 years as an educator in New Hampshire and Florida, including nine years with Clay County School District.
During my teaching career, I earned National Board Certification, and I continue to hold a Florida teaching certificate with a speech-language endorsement.
My background in both education and speech-language pathology provides me with a broader understanding of how communication skills influence learning, relationships, independence, and overall quality of life.
Why Connected Voices?
I created Connected Voices LLC to provide personalized speech-language therapy in a welcoming, supportive environment where individuals feel valued, understood, and empowered.
My goal is to help each client build meaningful communication skills, develop confidence, and make connections that enrich their everyday lives.
